Reaction Center(SM)
Updated monthly, the Reaction Center provides
representative and diverse coverage of the most important and reliable new reaction
information published in the world's leading chemistry literature. The database indexes
reactions from broad areas of chemistry - including polymers, large molecules and natural
compounds. Reaction Center, available through the ISI Chemistry Server(SM), is the only reaction database developed exclusively to meet
the special needs of those involved in chemical and pharmaceutical research.
Coverage for Reaction Center is drawn from over
350 international journals. Areas covered include organic chemistry, agrochemistry,
organometallic chemistry, and pharmaceutical science, as well as new synthetic methods
reported in patent literature. Every issue is examined for reports of new synthetic
methods. Each new method is entered into the database, along with any biological assays
performed or presumed biological activities of the compounds.

Reaction Center offers:
- substructure and reaction searching without the need for
additional software and with the convenience that only the Web can offer
- view of unique graphical displays and extensive reaction
conditions with practical lab applications through the ISI Chemistry Server
interface
- key or significant reactions eliminating redundancy
- coverage of patented reactions - critical to comprehensive
coverage
- current and retrospective reaction data available from 1986
to present for comprehensive coverage
- links to the ISI Citation Databases
and unique feature of cited reference searching through Web of
Science (available to Web of Science subscribers only)
- accurate and detailed information about each reaction, and
in many cases, sufficient detail to reproduce the synthesis
- the highest quality reaction source available today; to
ensure accuracy, ISI uses scientists to perform crucial "atom-atom" mapping
depicting the mechanism of each reaction
- selective coverage, including only new and improved methods
- enabling users to quickly find the best synthetic routes for their needs
- site-wide access to the detailed reaction information you
need, 24 hours a day, seven days a week - with no expensive online charges, no mainframe
maintenance or high software costs
Technical Specifications:
Software requirements
- ISI Chemistry Server is presently available as
IP-based with site-wide access (Internet). All users must have standard browser support
with the minimum functionality of Netscape 3.0 or higher or Internet Explorer 3.02 or
higher (with the patch available from Microsoft's homepage), and will need to provide the
necessary systems software, Internet connections and World Wide Web server software. ISI
will provide layered server software architecture consisting of substructure and reaction
searching software, a high-end text retrieval engine, optional World Wide Web server
software, and CGI applications. Plug-ins for composing structure queries are available for
Windows (currently available) and Macintosh.
Hardware requirements
- The initial Intranet release supports the Sun Systems
(Solaris) hardware platform, followed by the planned release of the Windows NT version.
ISI is currently working on compatibility with other popular platforms for release in the
near future.
