Linking to Full-Text Documents on the Web

If you see SilverLinker Logo on the Select Databases page, your library subscribes to the SilverLinker database. When you search these databases, you can link directly to full-text documents available from publishers' web sites.
NOTE: If you do not see the FTXT field within the bibliographic record, go to the Change Display Options page and make sure the field is selected.

    a. Link from one web site
    b. Link from two web sites
c.Link from more than two web sites

  • If the document cited in a bibliographic record is in the SilverLinker database, you see a Link To button in the FTXT field, followed by the publisher's name. If the document is available from a number of publishers' web sites, the button is followed by a drop-down list of names.
  • Click the Link To button to link to the publisher's web site and download the document. If there is a drop-down list, click the button to access the first site, or select a different publisher from the drop-down list, and click on the name to access that site.

(NOTE: Certain publishers may require you to login to their web sites. See your librarian or system administrator if you need more information.) Downloading time varies depending on the speed of your Internet connection and the size of the document.

  • Many full-text documents are published online in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. To read these documents, you will need the freely distrubuted Acrobat Reader available from Adobe's web site (http://www.adobe.com).
NOTE: Not all SilverPlatter databases support the SilverLinker feature. Check with your librarian or system administrator for a list of supported databases.

Link Services

This service is consist of two major categories which has three groups by themselves:

*Internal Links

Reference Links: Link from an articles references in one Web of Science record to the corresponding source records in the database, where the user can see complete bibliographic information.

Times Cited Links: They are from an articles bibliographic display to those articles subsequently published and indexed in the database which have cited that article.

Related Records links: Link from one article to other articles that are related to it by virtue of the fact that they share one or more references in common.

*External Links

Full-text links: They are in place between Web of Science records and corresponding full-text journal articles at publishers and aggregators sites. Where publishers desire enhanced references, additional links have been created that work in the opposite direction, from references in the full text to corresponding Web of Science records.

Patent Links: Patent data in the Derwent Innovations Index is linked to the Web of Sciences.

Sequence Data links: ISI has been working in cooperation with the National Library of Medicines National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) to establish ongoing links between the Web of Science and GenBank.
