ISI Chemistry Server(SM)
The ISI Chemistry Server provides a flexible Web
interface to high quality, up-to-date chemical information databases. Navigational
features allow researchers to access structure databases and easily perform substructure
and reaction searches with nothing more than a Web browser. This site-wide solution
currently features Reaction Center(SM),
our powerful reaction database that focuses on novel synthetic chemistry. Compound
Center(SM), available in 1999, will offer critical
information on more than one million new organic compounds.
ISI Chemistry Server offers:
- access to Reaction Center,
a comprehensive database of more than 400,000 new or improved synthetic methods and
patented reactions
- convenient substructure and reaction searching via the Web
without the need for additional software
- quick determination of the relevance of articles by
reviewing graphic displays of structural chemistry and full-length author abstracts
- cost-effective, all-in-one system including user-friendly
drawing package -- a Web browser is all that is needed to use ISI Chemistry Server
- unrestricted access times (available 24 hours a day, seven
days a week)
- linking capabilities to the Web
of Science and the ISI Citation
Databases, which allow researchers to navigate through multidisciplinary research
literature. With the unique feature of cited reference searching, the Web of Science
uncovers related information with full-text linking options (available to Web of
Science subscribers only)
- easy manageability of personal databases by downloading
references to bibliographic management packages such as Reference Manager
or ProCite
- convenient access to the ISI document delivery service, ISI Document Solution(SM)
Technical Specifications:
Software requirements
- ISI Chemistry Server is presently available as
IP-based with site-wide access (Internet). All users must have standard browser support
with the minimum functionality of Netscape 3.0 or higher or Internet Explorer 3.02 or
higher (with the patch available from Microsoft's homepage), and will need to provide the
necessary systems software, Internet connections and World Wide Web server software. ISI
will provide layered server software architecture consisting of substructure and reaction
searching software, a high-end text retrieval engine, optional World Wide Web server
software, and CGI applications. Plug-ins for composing structure queries are available for
Windows (currently available) and Macintosh.
Hardware requirements
- The initial intranet release (available in 1999) will
support the Sun Systems (Solaris) hardware platform, followed by the planned release of
the Windows NT version. ISI is currently working on compatibility with other popular
platforms for release in the near future.
