ISI
(Institute for Scientific Information) is
building a premium collection of evaluated scholarly Web
sites called Current Web Contents.
To build this collection, subject specialists in the ISI
editorial department have designed a comprehensive selection
process modeled on the quality editorial standards developed
by ISI over forty years ago. In the absence of peer review,
citation data, and established journal publishing standards,
measuring the value of a Web site has necessitated the
development of specialized criteria specifically oriented to
Web information. These criteria include:
|
|
Authority
|
|
|
Accuracy
|
|
|
Currency
|
Current Web Contents
will be the quality mark used to indicate that Web sites
have been reviewed by ISI editorial experts. Current Web
Contents guarantees authenticity, relevance and
timeliness of Web-based data.
These qualitative and quantitative criteria are used by ISI
editors to construct a standardized record for each selected
Web site. This provides the user with a summary that details
the content of the sites.
The first release of this Web
collection is available in Version 1.4 of Current
Contents Connect. This prototype module is free to Current
Contents Connect Internet subscribers. These sites in Current
Web Contents have been selected for researchers,
scientists, and information professionals. Use of this
database will save time and money for the searcher and for
the librarian charged with building institutional lists of
relevant Web sites.
ISI will continue to develop Current Web Contents,
adding evaluated scholarly sites and features that will be
unique to this collection.
Look for the Current Web
Contents logo on selected Web sites. ISI will be
inviting the creators of these scholarly sites to indicate
that they have been evaluated by ISI and that they are
included in the Current Web Contents collection.
