BIOSIS and the National Federation of Abstracting and Indexing Services (NFAIS) announced the election of Linda Sacks, BIOSIS' Senior Vice-President, Product Development and Marketing, as NFAIS' new President-elect.

The election highlights Sacks' experience with the life sciences information industry, and in particular, her work at BIOSIS and the company's recent growth in Web services and products.

"Developments at BIOSIS through the past few years mirror the issues important to NFAIS, and I plan on using that experience to contribute to NFAIS' mission," said Sacks. "New information providers from academic, commercial, and government sectors of the market are appearing more than ever, and NFAIS wants to increase the networking among these organizations so that they can build upon each others' strengths. Since coming to BIOSIS, I've seen the company grow into a leading provider of Web information services and products. This, along with its position in the life sciences research community, will enable me to bring a useful perspective on these same matters for NFAIS."

Sacks' profile includes twenty years in the electronic publishing field with concentration in product management and business development. Her considerable international experience will also be a benefit to NFAIS, as it has been to BIOSIS. Previously, Ms. Sacks served as Marketing Director with Netherlands-based Elsevier Science, the largest journal publisher serving the worldwide science community. At Elsevier, Ms. Sacks managed numerous international product lines, including EMBASE and Geobase. Previous to her service at Elsevier, Linda served as Director, Electronic Information Services for the Institute for Scientific Information.

"At BIOSIS, we have expanded our Web product line as well as developed new partnerships with other life science companies to develop innovative products and services to serve the growing needs of our customers. BIOSIS has done a tremendous job in serving its customers over the years, and in the past few years has taken an even more dynamic role in the information community. I look forward to contributing to NFAIS' plans in the same way."
