The
American National Biography Online announces its latest
quarterly update
With over
18,000 illustrations, the ANB Online reflects the rich
diversity of American life
The 38 new
biographies in the April 2003 Update continue this
tradition by covering occupations from Advertising
Industry Leaders (Helen Lansdowne Resor, first woman to
succeed in national advertising) to Virologists (Daniel
Nathans, Nobel-Prize-winning discoverer of restriction
enzymes). Among the people profiled are actor
Richard Burton, crime novelist Jim Thompson, tennis player
Bobby Riggs, and naval officer Elmo R. Zumwalt. The update
also includes articles on William Morton Fullerton,
journalist who was Edith Wharton's secret lover, and
Horace L. Hunley, Confederate patriot who built the first
successful combat submarine.
